WINNIPEG (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The Canadian Football league is considering selling naming rights to the Grey Cup, the Canadian Press reported.

The Grey Cup, a trophy for the Canadian Football League, a professional rugby association was fist awarded in 1909. Now the league is floating the idea of a corporate sponsor attaching their name to the iconic trophy.

"It is a very sacred name," Roth said of the Grey Cup to the Canadian Press "But it's very hard to say never to anything, because if it was an absolute stellar brand and they were willing to invest significant dollars for those rights, we'll take a look at it. We'll weigh the pros and the cons and we'll make a decision that I think we all feel we can live with."

This has caused some dissension amongst fans however who have claimed that the league should not be allowed to exchange a "national treasure" for profit.

No decision has yet been reached if a deal will move forward. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
